After more than 600 days away due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Minor League Baseball returns to action Tuesday.
As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, 17 former North Carolina players were listed on Opening Day rosters, including many who are entering their first full professional seasons. Among them is Aaron Sabato – who the Minnesota Twins took 27th overall in the 2020 MLB Draft – and Michael Busch – who Baseball America ranks as MLB’s No. 77 prospect.

Worth mentioning
Tim Federowicz signed a Minor League contract in the offseason with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team with which he made his MLB debut in 2011. He’ll likely be assigned to the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers, who have yet to announce their roster.
Tyler Baum is currently rehabbing at the Oakland Athletics’ spring training facility in Arizona, according to Melissa Lockard of The Athletic. He’ll likely report to the High-A Lansing Lugnuts after rehabbing.
The Miami Marlins sent Mike Morin outright to the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Feb. 12, but he isn’t listed on the team’s Opening Day roster.
Rodney Hutchison (New York Yankees) and Ike Freeman (Cleveland Indians) are both awaiting assignment.
